Devils Elbow, MO
Devil's Elbow is at a sharp turn along Route 66. As you approach the Elbow, you will be going over a four lane portion of the original roadway.
There is a 1923 steel truss bridge just past the Elbow Inn that recently has been under repair.
Once you make the turn, you will come to the Elbow Inn, which is a roadhouse dating from 1929. As you will see from the Video on this page, it once was one of the great biker destinations on Route 66. Biker chicks would give up their bras, sign them and get them stapled to the ceiling. Unfortunately, the owners would not renew the lease of the former operators, and it's being turned into a sandwich shop. They must hate money!
The Munger Moss Sandwich Shop originally was at the site of the Elbow Inn. When the town was bypassed in the 1940s, the owners moved to Lebanon and opened the Munger Moss Motel.
There is an old bridge just past the Elbow Inn that recently underwent needed repairs.
Sheldon's Market also is in Devil's Elbow. It opened as Miller's Market in 1954 and later became Allman's market. Today Phillip Sheldon owns it. It also serves as the local post office.
