Red Fork, OK
As you leave Tulsa on Southwest Blvd you will go over the Arkansas River to Red Fork. The 11th St Arkansas River Bridge (now called the Cyrus Avery Route 66 Memorial Bridge), which was built in 1917, is being restored.
Construction on the roadway in Red Fork recently has been completed, so the going is smooth.
Red Fork has Gears and Beers Bike Shop, where you can "Ride in Lube Up and Ride Out Smooth." This is a cool little Old School bike shop and beer joint (Panheads out front!). According to owner Marty Brown, "Who wouldn't like to have a cold beer while getting their oil changed"? This place has the "Scavenger Total Oil Change System" that gets every drop of old oil out in each oil change.
Marty used to be a mechanic for the Yamaha Motocross Racing Team. He is a meticulous guy who designed his own pistons for high performance racing. These days, he wants to focus on service, and he and his very cool wife Jennel are there all the time. Sunday afternoons are some of the busiest times. So, be sure to stop by when you pass through Red Fork.
There also is a Route 66 Park being constructed by the cities of Tulsa and Red Fork featuring the Frisco Meteor locomotive, which is so big you can almost feel the power it must have had. A giant old fashioned oil derrick stands nearby.
You also will go by Ollie's Station Restaurant, which is a classic Route 66 destination featuring model trains in the ceiling.
