Clinton hosts the Annual Clinton Route 66 Festival each May. This is a big time biker event featuring a poker run, burn outs, car and motorcycle shows and live music.
Be sure to visit the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum at 2229 W Gary Blvd. It costs a few dollars, but you will have a fun self guided tour through six decades of Route 66 history. There are vintage cars and exhibits focusing on road construction, transportation, lodging, restaurants, garages, curio shops, attractions andother artifacts, and it's all set to music.
Outside is a tiny Route 66 diner that operated on Route 66 in Shamrock, Texas from 1956 to 1964. Dozens of these diners were manufactured by the Valentine Manufacturing Company of Wichita, Kansas.
Elvis liked to stay in Room 215 at the Trade Winds Motel at 2128 W Gary Blvd across the street from the Museum.
The Glancy Motor Hotel at 217 E Gary Blvd opened in the 1950's and was operated by Chester and Gladys Yancy. After that it was a Best Western until the late 1970's. It closed for good in 2019 due to building code violations. But there is good news. The Clinton Economic Developmemt Authority has implemented a plan to restore the Glancy. Let's hope they get going soon!
The Glancy's neighbor was Pop Hick's Restaurant, which was open 24 hours a day. Pop Hick's burned down in August of 1999. There is good news here to. In connection with the Glancy restoration, the plan is to rebuild Pop Hick's.
You also can visit the 1892 Mohawk Lodge Indian Store at 22702 Route 66 N, which was the first trading post in Oklahoma.
The family-owned 1950 Dairy Best at 301 S 19th St is the oldest restaurant in Clinton.
The Cheyenne Cultural Center at 22724 Route 66 N is located on the original Red Wheat allotment of the Cheyenne-Arapaho Indian Reservation. There also is the Lucky Stars Casino at 10347 N 2247 Rd.
On your way out of town you will pass the "Y", which served Clinton as a service station and café from 1937 until it was bypassed in 1956. It now is a used car lot.
Nearby, you will see the 1934 Neptune Court, which was a motel, bar and gas station.
Follow Neptune out of Clinton - Stay on S Frontage Rd - Look for Exit 57/Stafford on I-40 - Go under I-40 and then go left onto the Frontage Rd - At the first Stop sign at the ruins of Michael's Place, go straight and follow the signs toward a KOA campground - Stay on that road to I-40 Exit 50 - Go left and cross I-40 - Go right on S Frontage Rd - Cross I-40 again and go left on N Frontage Rd. Go left and cross I-40 at I-40 Exit 47, get on N Frontage Rd - Cross I-40 and go right on Route 66 at the Canute Heritage Center
From Clinton, follow Bus 40/Gary Blvd out of town - Cross Turtle Creek and go left across Bus 40 at the first opportunity (Turtle Creek Rd; there is no identifying street sign at this left hand turn) - Take an immediate right onto Route 66/N Frontage Rd - Cross over I-40 at the first chance (by the Cherokee Trading Post), then go left onto S Frontage Rd - At the next Stop sign, go straight across Hwy 54, and stay on S Frontage Rd to the next Stop sign - Go straight, stay in the right lane, and follow Bus 40 onto Main St - Follow Main St through Weatherford - Go left on Washington, then take an immediate right onto E Main (the N Frontage Rd)
