Montoya, NM
The ride to Montoya will take you onto the Frontage Road and through a narrow tunnel under I-40. This tunnel can get muddy in wet weather, so if it's raining, stay on I-40 to Montoya.
Montoya, which was founded in 1902, originally was a rail head serving local cattle ranchers. There is not much left in Montoya except the abandoned 1925 Richardson's Store and Sinclair Station, which operated until the mid-1970s when the owner died.
From Montoya, at the abandoned Richardson's Store, go strait through the I-40 West sign, go up the hill and follow the road to the left over I-40, then follow it around a long curve onto S Frontage Rd - The Frontage Rd will cross over I-40 again - Follow it to Newkirk
From Montoya, follow N Frontage Rd past the abandoned Richardson's Store - Follow the Frontage Rd through a narrow tunnel, cross under I-40, and get on S Fontage Rd - Go left toward the Dairy Queen where S Frontage Rd turns to gravel and get on I-40 - Get off I-40 at Exit 329 and follow Bus 40 through Tucumcari
