Los Angeles, CA

October 16, 2023

Hopefully, you will have made it into LA from Pasadena in a reasonable amount of time.

When you come into town, you'll be pretty near Dodger Stadium, and you soon will be in the Echo Park neighborhood. This is a colorful section of town with a bohemian atmosphere. Traffic through here can be pretty managable, and its a fun ride through the City of Angels.

So far so good, but you are about to hit Santa Monica Blvd for the home stretch. Be prepared: the traffic is horrible almost all the time, and your 10 mile ride to Santa Monica and the terminus of Route 66 likely will take hours. It is bad even on Sunday mornings.

If you look to your right as you start down Santa Monica Blvd, you can catch a peek at the fameous Hollywood sign. It's hard to see, buy if you get a glimpse, you might want to take a brief detour down one of the side streets for a better view and a photo op.

You'll pass through West Hollywood near the corner of Hollywood and Vine. There are signs to the Avenue of the Stars. You'll also pass by Barney's Beanery, which is billed as the third oldest restaurant in LA.

Just before getting to Santa Monica, you'll go past the Troubador, which is one of the most fameous small venues for quality live music in the country. This place has been a classic since 1957.

When you go through Beverly Hills, you'll see the fameous palm tree lined streets to your right, and you'll go past Rodeo Drive on your left.
