Algodones, NM
Algodonas was founded as a military garrison to protect wagon trains traveling from Santa Fe to Chihuahua, Mexico. Later, it served as a military supply depot and was occupied by General Kearney and the Army of the West in 1846.
The main attraction in Algodones seems to be the La Hacienda Vargas Bed and Breakfast. The site once was used as a stagecoach stop and as a train station.
There also is a small market where you can gas up.
The ride to Bernalillo passes through neighborhoods of small desert homes and Mobil home parks. The road follows some railroad tracks and is lined by sage brush and other desert plants. There is not all that much to see, but this will be the last ride before hitting the traffic of the Albuquerque suburbs, so enjoy this quiet stretch of road.
