Godley once was a boom town when coal was mined near there. The Illinois Route 66 Mining Museum opened a few years ago. It features history and artifacts relating to Godley's mining roots. It has been open only in the summer months, but plans are underway to keep it open year round.
Today Godley has about 600 people.
Godley participates in the Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor events each May.
