Atlanta, IL
Most of ride from McLean to Atlanta is on the I-55 frontage road. However, there are several old Route 66 era overpasses.
Going into town there is a huge smiley face water tower. It has a small but cool downtown that features the Bunyon Giant holding a giant hot dog. Originally, this giant held an ax in Flagstaff, AZ, and then a hot dog in Cicero. There also are a bunch of Route 66 themed murals, an octagonal library built in 1908 and a 40 foot tall watchtower that is wound by hand.
Chubby's Bar and Grill is a great spot. It has an eclectic crowd for a town the size of Atlanta. A group of European bikers stops in every year.
The other Downtown spot is the Korner Bar. It is more rustic than Chubby's.
There is a privately owned museum Downtown called Memories. It features local artifacts, a 1961 Rolls Royce and a 1941 Packard Coupe.
Next door is the Palms Grill, which is in a restored 1940's Greyhound Bus Terminal. It has an extensive menu with over 20 kinds of home-made pie every day.
