Staunton, IL

October 16, 2023

Staunton is at the end of the Alternate routes from Springfield. The Pre-1930 and. Post-1930 routes meet there. One branch will take you through town, while the other bypasses downtown.

Be sure to check out the Route 66 Tourist Information Center (AKA Henry's Rabbit Ranch Home). It has a bunch of Route 66 spoofs, like a Rabbit like one at the JackrabbitTrading Post in Arizona and a mini-Cadillac Ranch. This place is in disrepair and is open only on a hit or miss basis or by appointment. But even if it's not open there is a lot of cool stuff outside. Plus, it's on a beautiful rural portion of the Post 1930 Alignment of Route 66.
