Hamel, IL

October 16, 2023

Hamel was first settled in 1818, but was not incorporated until 1955. Today it has about 400 residents.

Keep an eye out for St Paul's Lutheran Chuch on the frontage road outside of town with its distinctive blue neon cross.

Also stop by Pink Elephant Antiques. It has a Giant Muffler Man outside. How cool would it be to buy that!

Hamil is the home of Weezy's Roadhouse (formerly Scotty's), which first opened in the 1930s and was an Al Capone hang-out. It has been redone, and now is more of a family oriented diner with a strong Route 66 theme. It has a small bar. Although it has undergone significant renovation, some of the old roadhouse feel remains. It also is a big biker spot, and participates in lots of poker runs and other biker events.
