Crestwood, MO
Crestwood is a small suburb of St Louis.
It had the Club 277, which claimed to be at the 277 mile marker along Route 66. It was a great biker joint that had live music seven days a week. This is the place where I locked myself out of my hotel room, naked, without my room key, and having forgotten my room number. That was an adveenture!
Unfortunately, Club 277 has been replaced by The Twisted Tree, which is attached to the Holiday Inn.
Nearby, Anhauser-Bush owns an animal reserve called Grants Park, which is on property once owned by Ulysses S. Grant. It has free roaming buffalo, zebras and other animals.
When leaving Crestwood, we give you two options: The suggested route is the pre-1932 alignment passing through Manchester, Ballwin, Ellisville, Pond, Hollow and then Gray Summit. The alternate route follows I-44 through Allenton and Pacific before also arriving in Gray Summit. We suggest the older route because while it goes through a few congested St Louis suburbs, it also avoids I-44 all together and winds through several scenic rural towns.
- From Watson Rd just before the Holiday Inn, go right on US 61/67 N. There is no Route 66 sign here.
- Go through Kirkwood then keep going until you intersect with Hwy 100. There will be a sign telling you to go right onto Route 66. Ignore this sign and go left on Hwy 100.
- Stay on Hwy 100 to Manchester.
Follow Watson Rd/Hwy 366 into Webster Groves
