Vega, TX
What happens in Vega stays in Vega.
Vega has lots of Route 66 relics, including the 1920s Magnolia Gas Station, which has been partially restored.
Dot's Mini Museum is a Route 66 classic site with a few small rooms filled with Route 66 artifacts and a Cowboy Boot Tree on which cowboy boots are tied. It is not always open, and when open, not always attended. Apparently Dot's daughter Betty is in charge. You may want to call before you visit.
The 1947 Vega Motel was put up for auction in 2009. Last time I was through there the Motel looked in pretty good shape, but it didn't appear to be open, although some locals told me it was.
Roark hardware bills itself as the oldest hardware store on Route 66.
