Correro was founded in 1914 and prospered as a service center with a railroad station. It had the only post office in the area.
There is nothing left in Correro except the Wild Horse Mesa Bar. It looks like a cool place, but it has not been opened when I have gone by.
Across from the Wild Horse Mesa Bar is a Route 66 sign that will lead you down a dirt road to Mesita. I tried to ride my bike down this road, which is on private property, and it was much too rough. I turned around less than half a mile down the road. As much fun as it is exploring the older parts of Route 66, you will be better off passing this portion of the Old Road and continuing a mile and a half down the road to I-40 and then on to Exit 117 and Mesita.
From Correro, get on I-40 and get off at Exit 117 to Mesita - Go right at the end of the ramp onto the Frontage Rd toward Laguna
From Correro, take Hwy 6 past Correro for several miles - Cross I-25 into Los Lunas
