Prewitt, NM
Prewitt hosts an annual Labor Day Rodeo.
Prewitt also has the Route 66 Swap meet, which has been closed every time I have passed through.
The Tomahawk Bar is up the road a bit. It once was a wild place. It was opened after WW II by Pistol Pete South, who started with an adobe bar that burned. He rebuilt and added a 20 x 40 foot steel Quonset hut and a concrete block facade. The only sign read "BAR." Simple and to the point! "Tomahawk" was added later, maybe by a different owner. The bar business was closed in the last decade due to excessive fighting and repeated violations of liquor laws. Today it only sells package liquors and beer. Too bad. This place sounds like it was perfect for bikers!
