Chambers has the Chambers Trading Co, which is pretty spare, but you can get gas and food. It also is a pawn shop.
Next door is the Kiyaaaanii Gallery, which means Towering House (except for some accent marks that a normal computer cannot make, that's the correct spelling!).
You can take a detour through the Petrified Forrest, which has fossilized trees that lived 225 million ago. Humans first came to the area about 8,000 years ago, and pueblos were constructed beginning about 2,000 years ago. Due to changing climate conditions (no doubt caused by man made carbons being emitted into the atmosphere), the last of the pueblos was abandoned about 1,400 years ago. There are over 600 archeological sites, including petrographs. It's illegal to pocket any artifacts, but many nearby stores sell them.
The northern part of the Petrifird Forrest extends into the Painted Desert, which gets its name from the sweeping colors of the rock formations.
There are lots of sculptures of dinasours along I-40, along with the usual assortment of souvenir stands and jewelry outlets.
After Chambers, you will have a 45 mile ride on I-40 to Holbrook. It's a bummer being on the Interstate, but you will pass some cool stuff.
From Chambers, go left off the N Frontage Rd onto US 191 - Go about a quarter of a mile and get on I-40 - Get off I-40 at Exit 289 and go right on Navajo Blvd/Bus 40 into Holbrook - Go right on Hopi Dr in Downtown Holbrook and follow it out of town
From Exit 333 in Chambers, go left and in about half a mile, go right onto Apache CO 7060, which becomes N Frontage Rd, and follow it to Sanders (There is no sign for Sanders)
