Newberry Springs, CA
Newberry Springs is another mostly lost Route 66 town, but it has a few sites worth seeing.
The Bagdad Cafe' used in the movie by that name is here. This is the original building used in the movie, but is not the original Bagdad Cafe', which was in in the now lost town of Bagdad near Amboy. The remnants of the motel used in the movie remains there too. There also is a well preserved fenced in Whiting Bros Station.
There is a local watering hole called The Barn that's a pretty good place.
The roadway from Newberry Springs to Barstow is in much better condition than the Roadway into Ludlow. Although the road is mostly a strait line, there are some swales that are fun on a motorcycle.
From Newberry Springs, stay on N Frontage Rd/National Trails Hwy for about 11.5 miles to a Stop sign at Dagett Rd - Go straight for about another 2,5 miles to a sharp curve left that will take you onto Nebo Rd - Get on I-40 - Get off at the next Exit, which will be Marine Corps Logistics base - Go left under I-40 and continue to a Stop sign - Cross some lanes and go right onto the Frontage Rd - Go right at the light at Montara Rd, cross under I-40, and go left onto Bus 15/Main St in Barstow
From Newberry Springs, follow National Trails Hwy all the way until the road comes to a T at Crucero Rd - Go right and cross I-40, then go left in front of the Ludlow Cafe onto National Trails Hwy into Ludlow
