Helendale, CA
Helendale is small, but has some good Route 66 sites.
Newton's Towing has an old Polly Gas Station sign featuring a large parrot and the prices for gas in a bygone era. I can't remember gas being 18.9 cents a gallon, but I can remember when it was less than a quarter.
Helendale also has the Bottle Tree Ranch, which consists of hundreds of colorful bottles in metal stands arranged to look like trees. There also are lots of old Route 66 and other roadside style artifacts. Keep a sharp lookout or you will breeze right past this Route 66 gem.
We have not included many museums on this site unless they relate to Route 66, motorcycles or vintage cars, but we have to mention the Exotic World Burlesque Museum and Hall of Fame that used to be on a goat farm just outside of Helendale. Unfortunately, it moved to Las Vegas and has since closed all together.
Keep a lookout for a sign directing you to Roy Rodgers' Double R Bar Ranch.
