Oro Grande, CA

October 16, 2023

When riding into Oro Grande, you'll finally hit some soft curves and hills after being on the long strait road from Barstow.

On the way into town, you'll pass by the Iron Hog Saloon. In the 1890s, it was a Wells Fargo switching station, and it has been a bar since the 1930s. Roy Rogers' ranch was nearby, and Roy and Dale Evans were frequebt guests. They each carved the brand of the Ranch into the bar. It was in the movies Easy Rider, Poker Run, and Erin Brockovitch.

Today, the Iron Hog is an Old School biker joint with everything an Old School biker could want. There is cold beer, booze, an outside patio, go go dancers, food, and a big property to have cook-outs.

On the way out of town you will pass over a 1930 bridge that looks a bit asymmetrical.

On your way to Victorville, you will pass Emma Jean's Holland Burger. It's a small place where folks prefer to sit at the counter rather than the tables. Emma Jean's was opened in 1947 as the Holland Cafe' by Bob and Katherine Holland. They sold it to Emma Jean in 1979 and she changed the name to Emma Jean's Holland Burger. Today it is run by Emma Jean's son Brian and his wife. This is a unique place with good food and a national following. Part of the movie Kill Bill was filmed there and it has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Diners.
