Upland, CA
Upland was founded in 1906 as an agricultural community focusing on citrus groves and grapes. There was a mule powered trolley to transport passengers from Upland to the Southern Pacific Railroad line in a neighboring town.
Today, Upland is a famous skateboarding mecca because it is where vertical pool and pipe skateboarding originated. It was home to the Pipeline Skate Park, which in 1977 featured a 20 foot pipe that was the predecessor of the Baldy Pipe, and the Monster Bowl.
One of the 12 Madonna of the Trail statutes put up across the country by the Daughters of the American Revolution is in Upland. There are two along Route 66. The other one is in Albuquerque.
