Azusa, CA
Azuza is known as the Canyon City because it is located near the entrance to the San Gabriel Canyon.
Route 66 into Azusa follows a couple of hundred yards of double wide pre-fab homes, but shaded by some beautiful copper beach trees. Azusa has lots more double wides, but it is a very pleasant and well groomed town.
The big Route 66 feature in Azusa is the Foothills Drive In Theater, with its angled marquis so it can be seen from both directions. It opened in 1961 with the movies Babes in Arms and Misty, and had its last showing in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Ocean's Eleven. The theater no longer is in operation, but the marquis is to be preserved.
From Azusa, follow Foothill Blvd, which becomes Huntington Dr, to Duarte
