Countryside, IL
First settled in 1833, Countryside remained mostly farmland until the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. This forced people to move out of the city into suburbs like this where land was sold for $2 an acre. The population expanded again after WWII.
The Marx Brothers owned a chicken farm in Countryside. They owned it at the "beak" of their careers. It's how "Chico" got his name. A lot of "clucks" live there, although some of them are "good eggs." Some residents feel "cooped up." I'll spare you any more puns (cock and pullet jokes might lead me too far astray). Hey, blame Groucho, not me!
