Claremore, OK
Claremore is Will Rogers home town, and half the town is named for him. Claremore gained popularity in the early 20th century through the discovery of so called medicinal waters. It later gained popularity as Will Rogers gained fame. Still later, Claremore became a prosperous Route 66 town.
The Will Rogers Hotel was built in 1930 and had 68 rooms and seven apartments. It still is the tallest building in Claremore and houses apartments for Seniors.
The Will Rogers Memorial Museum is located at 12720 Will Rogers Blvd.
The JM Davis Arms and Historical Museum at 333 N Lyn Riggs Blvd has the world's largest privately owned firearms collection. It has guns owned by Cole Younger, Emmett Dalton, John Wesley Hardin, Bonnie and Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd and Pancho Villa.
When you leave town toward Catoosa, you will go over the Twin Bridges. One dates to 1936 and is 24feet wide. The other dates to 1957 and is 28 feet wide. The bridges are being replaced by new bridges that will not keep the arches. One of the arches now is the entrance to Molly's Landing Restaurant and another is at the entrance of Rogers Point Park. What a shame.
Claremore hosts the Route 66 Car Show and Swap Meet each June.
