Elkhart, IL

October 16, 2023

Elkhart is a bump in the road between Lincoln and Springfield. It was a major route connecting Springfield and Bloomington, and Abraham Lincoln frequently stayed there when he was on the Illinois legal circuit.

Although Elkhart has only a few hundred residents, there have been settlements in Elkhart since the early 1800s. It once was a major shipping point for the C&A Railroad that served large cattle interests in the area.
