Quapaw, OK
October 16, 2023
Somehow, Bobby Troup forgot to mention Quapaw (pronounced O-Gah-Pah) when he wrote Get Your Kicks on Route 66. It was named for the Quapaw Indians who originally were from Arkansas.
On the July 4th weekend each year, they hold the oldest pow-wow in the US at Beaver Springs State Park. It has been going on for over 140 years.
There is some action at the casinos, and you can eat at Dallas' Dairyette or at Hemi's Cafe' across the street.
