Warr Acres, OK
Warr Acres was founded in 1948 by developer C B Warr. It is the first suburb West of Oklahoma City, and many folks there will tell you they are from OKC.
Warr Acres had Ann's Chicken Fry House, which featured a 1950s nostalgia look complete with vintage cars out front and many Route 66 artifacts. Unfortunately, it didn't survive the Pandemic.
There also is Jack's BBQ, which has a distinctive neon sign. The food is terrific, especially the pulled pork sandwiches and ribs.
Biker wise, there is the Hideaway, which is a small smokey biker bar, and the Route 66 Roadhouse, which features a good bar and live music. These two places may technically be in Bethany, but its hard to tell because Warr Acres and Bethany blend into each other.
The Nuhoma Motel and the Carlysle Motel are Route 66 originals. They are inexpensive, but not as nice as the Downtown hotels.
The Carlyle Motel claims to be a 1943 Route 66 original. The sign looks like the sign for the original motel, but the motel doesn't seem to be of the original motor court style. There must have been reconstruction along the way.
From War Acres, follow OK 66 to Bethany
From Warr Acres, follow OK 66/39th Expressway and merge onto I-44 toward Oklahoma City - Get of at Exit 124 (May Ave) - Go right on May - Go left on 23rd St - Go left on Western Ave - Follow Western Ave past the I-44 interchange, past 90th St and go right` on Briton Rd - Follow Britton Rd to the Stop sign at Kelly - Go left on Kelly - Go right on Memorial, then take an immediate left onto the Frontage Rd - Follow the Frontage Rd until it intersects with Broadway/US 77 - Go right on Broadway toward Edmond
