Bethany, OK
Bethany hosts the Bethany 66 Festival each May.
Bethany was founded in 1906 by members of the Nazerene Church, who started a college there. That influence lingered at least into the mid-1940s, at which time no alcohol or tobacco products were allowed, and there were no theaters.
Bethany and Warr Acres blend into each other, and the Hideaway and Route 66 Roadhouse detailed on the Warr Acres page may be in Bethany.
The most destinctive Route 66 site in Bethany is the Western Motel with its vintage neon sign.
Between Bethany and Youkon there is a 1919 Lake Overholser Bridge that has been restored. There is concrete from the original Road that now is accessible. This is a neat little detour off the main road to an alternate part of Route 66 along Lake Overholser. This ride is tree tree lined and goes through some newer residential neighborhoods. It is only a few minutes out of the way and is worth the ride.
